Mila van Deventer’s Party
Review by Nicoline van Deventer (Mila’s Mom)
When our daughter Mila turned 5, she desperately wanted “to make something we can eat”. From my first phone call to Renate at Little Cooks Club (Cape Town – Northern Suburbs) she helped with every detail in planning the party. She made an appointment to meet with Mila to discuss what she wanted to make on her big day. Mila wanted her party at home, and chose “Spade to Spatula”. She was so excited she started counting the days to the party! Renate even emailed me beautiful completed invitations that I could send out to the guests.
On the morning of the party Renate arrived with all the tables, chairs, utensils and ingredients. She decorated three different working stations for all the different activities. Everything was ready and beautiful when the first guests arrived, even a blackboard with “Happy Birthday Mila” at the entrance!
They immediately started with decorating the pots in which they planted Spring Onions and Pepper plants. When it was time to start with the “Bacon Cups”, Renate took all the children to the cooking station and explained what they were making. She slowly guided them through every step, and each child was able to make his own cup from scratch. Renate taught them the correct way to use a knife, and they used scissors to cut the bacon.
While the cups were baking in the oven, Renate showed the children how to make lemonade. They loved squeezing the lemons and adding spoonful’s of sugar! Renate kept the kids busy, and the moms were able to chat without interruption and get to know each other better. Renate is so good with the children, they never needed the moms’ assistance!
All the kids were so proud of the cups they made, and they were delicious! Renate packed each child’s Bacon Cups in a beautiful box, with the recipe and certificate for completion included. With a pot plant under each arm, a box of bacon cups and chef’s hat on the head, it was time for the little cooks to go home…
Thank you Renate for hosting this perfect birthday party! The parents were very impressed with the activities and the professional manner in which you interacted with the children. Five of the children that attended the party enrolled in the weekly Little Cooks Club classes. Well done!
